UR Medicine (Rochester, NY) - 500 Masks Needed

Event Chair: Matt Ulakovic

DETAILS:

UR Medicine, the area’s largest hospital system, is asking for your help in preserving their supply of manufactured masks for front-line health care workers by donating homemade cloth face masks for use by their support staff in non-patient facing areas. While many generous people throughout our community have already donated homemade masks, there remains a need as they prepare for the anticipated surge of COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.

They are only accepting deliveries of handmade masks offsite at their College Town Donation Center, where they can maintain the greatest amount of social distancing, and process and wash your donation in a way that is safe for everyone. Please do not bring your donation to one of their hospitals.

Dropoff Location: 40 Celebration Dr. Rochester, NY 14642

Dropoff Times: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday – Friday

NOTE: Please park in the College Town Courtyard lot; enter through the double-doors (Look for the “Donation” signs); place your donation on the table at right upon entering the space.

Please package your mask donation in a clean plastic bag, cardboard box, or other sealed container, and place a label on the outside with your:
  • Name
  • The contents and quantity
  • Your email or phone number

If you are interested in learning what else you can do or donate to UR Medicine, like blood or food, please check out their COVID-19 webpage- https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/coronavirus/how-you-can-help.aspx

  1. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong -but I’m just trying to sign up for 10 masks for CDS (I already made 10 and dropped them off for URMC)….it just keeps asking if I want to ‘clear’ my last signup and I cant seem to sign up for CDS.

    1. Only offer what you are willing and able to donate! And that’s after you’ve made masks for yourself and your household.

Our initial plan was, indeed, to provide all of the materials but then all of our shipments were either blocked or seized and never made it across state lines to us. We’re left scrambling with what we can find from leftover projects. If you don’t have elastic (as it’s now sold out basically EVERYWHERE), you can cut fabric into strips and sew them into ties. People often prefer the ties because you get a better, more secure fit and it’s way more comfortable.

    1. That’s most excellent! The peace of mind and security you’re offering the people wearing the masks and those they encounter is immeasurable.

No, please leave it for the record. You only clear it if you cannot fulfill your commitment.
